US team
- Kali - Working on the 2017 data call and are following up on a few tweaks right now. Working on figuring out how to mark the proxy indicators on the platform.
- Reporting status went from 33 to 41% since the last call! And they are all legitimate data sources with no proxies.
- Translation issues:
- Working through some of the translation files for the data call.
- There is a bug with the indicator page so that you can’t reach the other languages, but if you put ES (for spanish) before the indicator number in the URL, then it should work. For example, if you are on the spanish goals page then all the links point to english indicators. Should be a relatively simple code fix. Brock and Phil will work on it.
- Angela is working on the indicator names for French and will be working through the CSV file that Brock sent.
- Need to do a quick review of the French pages. Angela has translated them but would like for someone else to review them so that there aren’t any grammatical errors.
- Kali will look for a translator to do the review once Angela is done with the first translation. She will look for the federal agencies and think that the census has someone in house.
- Kali - working on pushing the translation to the site by December.
- Phil - Will fix the green ones in SDG 8 to push on the public site and automatically displaying the stars.
- Phil - will work on 8.9.1, which has a problem with the metadata page going blank. Just want to make sure that the metadata display on the public site.
- Brock and Phil want Kali to review their new automatic processes before they are put in place. Kali will be off next week but they will shoot for a meeting the week after.
- On the last call, Brock asked to speak with a data provider who is using wide format. Kali found someone, Tom Snyder form the Education department, who she will put Brock in touch with. Brock is working on a blog post/training about it and would like the perspective of a data provider using the format.
CODE team
- Brock is still working on the proof of concept for the US and UK platform merging. He is also working on mobile issues and subnational concepts, like what was done with D3, and see how they look with the UK’s mapping solution.
- Caleb found a helpful tool for those mapping the indicators to different initiatives:
- Joined-up Data Standards project is a tool by Development Initiatives, in collaboration with Publish What you Fund and supported by the Omidyar Network. The purpose of the project is to: explore how data published to competing standards can be made usable, and how development data standards can be designed, improved and governed to enable greater interoperability. They wrote a paper about this on the mapping the MDGs to the SDGs and mapping trusted indicators and sources of data to the SDGs.
- The Joined-up Data Standards project website has a tool for mapping indicators to different global initiatives (including the SDGs). They use a Simple Knowledge Organisation System (SKOS) to provide the structure to defining non-exact relationships such as ‘broader’, ‘narrower’, ‘close’ and ‘related’ matches between concepts (definitions) across taxonomies (standards). Looks like a great resource for other countries trying to modify MDG platforms and comply with multiple reporting requirements for different initiatives.
Country/subnational interest in cloning the NRP
- Armenia
- They prefer someone to visit in the fall
- Requirements include Armenian translation and automated backups
- Server may be unnecessary if using Github is an option
- Kali - better to tell them early about timing for the visit ahead of time.
- Phil- future projects:
- Data notices approach: Phil is working on this as a feed so that researchers could subscribe to it. Could be a workflow that other countries may be interested in.
- When does the US want to try the new architecture and the migration roadmap to CircleCI. Need to think how it will change requirements for how the site is hosted and managed.
- Will schedule a call in the next week with Brock to talk these things through.
