Background & Terrain implementation test

Marco777777 edited this page Oct 4, 2021 · 4 revisions

Purpose

The main purpose of this test is to observe and collect users' satisfaction with the terrain and background image of the new map. We also need to observe whether users have problems with switching maps. Observe and record the participants' behaviour by observing them as they complete the task. After the test, we will ask them several questions to further judge users' satisfaction with this function and collect specific improvement suggestions.

Process

Testers will be asked to participate in our testing tasks. We will introduce the specific steps and objectives of the task to the testers before the task starts, and give them a complete introduction to the rules of the game. As the testers completed the task, we recorded the user's reactions. Finally, we will analyse the observations and collected results to find out the problems in the functions and preliminarily determine the solutions.

Tasks

  • The tester had to successfully play the game for 1 minute.
  • The tester needs to successfully find and enter the first portal during the test.
  • After entering the first portal, the tester is required to pick up at least five medical kits on the new map.

Key questions we asked were:

  • Are you satisfied with the background design of the new map? If you are not satisfied, please tell us the reason.
  • Are you satisfied with the terrain design of the new map? If you are not satisfied, please tell us the reason.
  • Do you have any thoughts on the design of the portal?
  • Do you have any suggestions for our design to improve the experience?

  • Observantions:
    • The tester managed to play in the game for more than 1 minute.
    • The tester successfully found and entered the first portal.
    • After the testers entered the portal, we noticed some problems with map switching. (As shown below)

problem

  • Thoughts about the Background and Terrain implementation:

    • The tester felt that the background image of the new map was a bit dark, which might make the rest content of the game are hard to see.
    • The tester found that the background image colour of the new map matched the colours of other contents well, making it easy for tester to distinguish the content of the game.
    • The tester thought the portal design was creative, but needed to optimise the map switching process.
  • Likes/Dislikes:

    • Like:
      • The design style of new map background and terrain.
      • Design of the portal.
    • Dislike: N/A.
  • General Comments/Suggestions:

    • The map switching process needs to be further optimised.
    • Adjust the colour of the background image.

Summary

Based on testers feedback, we found that all testers liked the background image and terrain we designed for the new map. All the testers are satisfied. They are able to complete all tasks successfully and enjoy the game. As a result, we designed the background image and terrain style that fit the game and was successful.

However, we still need to improve the process of switching the map once the player enters the portal to further enhance the experience of the game. We can also fit several game maps to meet the needs of different players. In addition, some testers pointed out that the background image we designed for the new map was a bit dark, which might make it hard to see obstacles and terrain in the game. We need to adjust the colour of the background image of the new map in the further design to improve the experience of the player.
