I'd guess sometime in February. We don't have an official schedule, but tend to release every 2-4 months. 0.16 was october, 0.16.1 was december.

Do you maybe know of a way I can patch this on my side without having to vendor the entire theme?

Well you could install the development version of the theme on whatever computer/cloud machine builds your docs
