Renovating (or re-developing) software is a bit like taking an old cottage with lots of character and modernizing it without losing its original character and charm. This is environmentally sound in that it re-uses old materials, although it can be more expensive. Likewise re-using old software might seem more expensive or more difficult, but helps to avoid the loss of valuable, original and sometimes unique features in the original software.
