Summary

None

Purpose of change

I was upset.

Describe the solution

Readding old version of this spellbook under new name.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Also add new profession, something in between "would-be-wizard" and "Academy Wizard" that will start in fancy/wizardrylooking clothes without spells but with "An Introduction to Magic". But if i do, then in different PR.

Testing

Start game, debug spawn spellbook and debug spawn "magus_restricted_tier_1" itemgoup.

I'm curious what the problem is--you just wanted to start with magic missile and phase door?

Kinda. old would-to-be-wizard was basically novice magus profession. now it novice classles profession. With new old spellbook possible create new novice magus.

I think the solution there is a new profession with more explicit Magus spells that are legal, or a profession that would have reason to learn restricted magic (security guard? Private investigator?) A novice teaching text wouldn't have restricted magic in it even for students eventually cleared to learn it

But other novice level profession have restricted spells.
novice necromancer have illegal spell(but this probally fine)
novice shtormshaper have shocking lash, you missed add this spell in itemgroups, but it's clearly restricter level legality spell.
novice earthshaper have seismic_stomp.

A new profession with legal magus spells sounds interesting, I'll think about it. But I still want to bring back the old spellbook under a new name. What should I call it then?

name: "Magica Beginning"
description: "A spellbook written by a famous magus of the past for his students, the information in it, with the exception of a few spells, is outdated, so the work is primarily of historical interest."

But other novice level profession have restricted spells.

This is because I didn't touch the professions at all when I went through and categorized the spells. The solution isn't "novice mages get to learn restricted magic" it's "the professions need a pass to make sure they conform to the paradigm" (most people are probably not going to learn combat magic because most people don't get into fights).

But I still want to bring back the old spellbook under a new name. What should I call it then?

Honestly, I think this is the wrong approach. Magiclysm is magic in the modern world, so you need to think--who wrote this book? Who is the audience? If you want the same spell selection, what kind of person or job needs to learn Sound Bomb, Magic Missile, Knowing the Day and the Hour, Orb of Light, and Phase Door? Start with that and work outward.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. This set is a bit odd in today's world, but for a medieval student, it's perfectly acceptable. Orb of Light is for reading and writing even after sunset. Knowing the Day and the Hour is for tracking dates important to magic and serves as a stopwatch in alchemy. The remaining three spells are for self-defense: Phase Door for escape, Sound Bomb for intimidation(for example scare away beasts), and Magic Missile if the first two spells fail.

So like, "A English translation of the original Latin work, this book [etc etc etc]" or something like that.

It should go in magus_spellbooks_restricted_tier_1--the group you have it in is for scrolls only.

Spell checker encountered unrecognized words in the in-game text added in this pull request. See below for details.

  • "Magica Beginning"
  • "copies of Magica Beginning"

This alert is automatically generated. You can simply disregard if this is inaccurate, or (optionally) you can also add the new words to tools/spell_checker/dictionary.txt so they will not trigger an alert next time.

Hints for adding a new word to the dictionary
  • If the word is normally in all lowercase, such as the noun word or the verb does, add it in its lower-case form; if the word is a proper noun, such as the surname George, add it in its initial-caps form; if the word is an acronym or has special letter case, such as the acronym CDDA or the unit mW, add it by preserving the case of all the letters. A word in the dictionary will also match its initial-caps form (if the word is in all lowercase) and all-uppercase form, so a word should be added to the dictionary in its normal letter case even if used in a different letter case in a sentence.
  • For a word to be added to the dictionary, it should either be a real, properly-spelled modern American English word, a foreign loan word (including romanized foreign names), or a foreign or made-up word that is used consistently and commonly enough in the game. Intentional misspelling (including eye dialect) of a word should not be added unless it has become a common terminology in the game, because while someone may have a legitimate use for it, another person may spell it that way accidentally.

You could also avoid reusing "most" ("mostly") in the second part by using "the majority of the theory", "the main bulk of the theory" or something similar.
