DID Method Registration

Adding the Ciphora DID method to the registry.

As a DID method registrant, I have ensured that my DID method
registration complies with the following statements:

  • The DID Method specification defines the DID Method Syntax.
  • The DID Method specification defines the Create, Read, Update,
    and Deactivate DID Method Operations.
  • The DID Method specification contains a Security Considerations
    section.
  • The DID Method specification contains a Privacy Considerations
    section.
  • The JSON file I am submitting has passed all automated
    validation tests.
  • The JSON file contains a contactEmail address.

The spec and contact websites give an Invalid SSL Cert error.

Suggest closing unless an update is received.

The SSL configuration issue has been resolved.
ciphora.org/did/v1 and ciphora.org now serve correctly
over HTTPS. Please let me know if you encounter any
further issues. @swcurran Apologies.

🤖 AI Preliminary Specification Review

This is an advisory, automated review of the DID Method specification(s) referenced in this pull request, checked against the registration checklist. It does not replace review by the registry editors.

All reviewed submissions passed the preliminary checklist review. A registry editor will still perform the final review.

methods/ciphora.json — method did:ciphora

Specification: https://ciphora.org/did/v1

Preliminary verdict: ✅ PASS

The did:ciphora specification is a complete, well-structured DID Method spec with defined syntax, full CRUD operations, and substantive Security and Privacy Considerations sections. All MUST criteria are satisfied; minor advisory warnings relate to the missing verifiableDataRegistry field and F/RAND IP terms.

Item Level Status Notes
M1. Specification is reachable and is a DID Method specification MUST pass
M2. DID Method Syntax is defined MUST pass
M3. CRUD operations are defined MUST pass
M4. Security Considerations section present and substantive MUST pass
M5. Privacy Considerations section present and substantive MUST pass
M6. Method name is indicative and non-generic MUST pass
M7. No unreasonable legal, security, moral, or privacy harms MUST pass
M8. Human-readable description of the addition MUST pass
S1. contactEmail present OPTIONAL pass
⚠️ S2. verifiableDataRegistry present OPTIONAL warn The JSON entry omits verifiableDataRegistry. Resolution is described as local (vault file based), so anchoring is implicit, but the optional field is not populated.
⚠️ S3. Intellectual-property posture is clear SHOULD warn Footer states 'Copyright 2026 Ciphora. All rights reserved' but grants the method format/algorithm under F/RAND terms for DID interoperability. F/RAND (rather than royalty-free) terms may warrant editor attention for open interoperability.
