History

Origins

This Penn Course Review was originally created at PennApps by Alexey Komissarouk, and Penn Labs (formerly PennApps Labs) was established to maintain Penn Course Review. Unfortunately, none of the early code history is in git because it was discarded in the transition from hg to git.

PCR Pre-Labs

A "course review" at Penn was first started in 1959 by the Daily Pennsylvanian, and has had a rocky history since. More details can be found at the PCR Roundtable, last updated in 2008.

Name Controversy and SCUE

The "Penn Course Review", or "PCR" for short, living at https://penncoursereview.com/ shares a name with the SCUE organization also named the "Penn Course Review". When people refer to Penn Course Review, they almost always refer to the former, as Penn Labs have been maintaining the website, uploading reviews, paying for domains, arranging for hosting with STWing, and making improvements since the website's inception. SCUE's Penn Course Review has been tasked with creating qualitative reviews for courses, which has been neglected since Summer 2012.
