Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
As a submitting author, I would like to fully represent the contributions of all colleagues who contributed to the creation of our work which we are submitting to a Janeway journal or preprint server.

Describe the solution you'd like
Enable submitting authors or editors to assign each author a contributor role based on CRediT.

Ideally these roles would also be asserted in metadata about the article/preprint where possible.

It also should be a toggle-able feature that is optional for each journal/server.

It could also be nifty to combine as part of #3351 The co-author could authenticate their ORCID iD and affirm their CrediT role and affiliation. 🤔

Michigan is interested in this feature being developed, and so are our clients Westminster and Aperio.

ing.grid uses a text section in the manuscripts for defining author roles according to CRediT, so far. We'd love so see this implemented, especially if it gets included in the article metadata. We're a journal from Darmstadt.

TU Darmstadt (with our TUjournals service) is also very interested.
