A stand-alone cookbook for Kibana3
- apt
- yum
- apache2
- nginx
- git
As with most cookbooks I write, this one is hopefully flexible enough to be wrapped by allowing you to override as much as possible
node['kibana']['install_type']
- The type of install we are going to use eithergit
orzipfile
node['kibana']['git']['url']
- The url for the git repo to use for Kibana3node['kibana']['git']['branch']
- The sha or branch name to usenode['kibana']['file']['type']
- the type of archive file.zip
only at this stagenode['kibana']['file']['url']
- The zipfile URL for the latest kibana buildnode['kibana']['file']['checksum']
- The sha256 of the kibana zipfilenode['kibana']['install_path']
- The root directory where kibana will be installednode['kibana']['install_dir']
- The directory to checkout into. Acurrent
symlink will be created in this directory as well.node['kibana']['es_server']
- The ipaddress or hostname of your elasticsearch servernode['kibana']['es_port']
- The port of your elasticsearch server's http interfacenode['kibana']['es_role']
- unused eventually for wiring up discovery of your elasticsearch servernode['kibana']['es_scheme']
- Scheme helper if elasticsearch is outside of this cookbookhttp://
orhttps://
node['kibana']['user']
- The user who will own the files from the git checkout. (default: the web server user)node['kibana']['config_template']
- The template to use for kibana'sconfig.js
node['kibana']['config_cookbook']
- The cookbook that contains said config templatenode['kibana']['webserver']
- Which webserver to use: apache, nginx or ''node['kibana']['webserver_hostname']
- The primary vhost the web server will use for kibananode['kibana']['webserver_aliases']
- Array of any secondary hostnames that are valid vhostsnode['kibana']['webserver_listen']
- The ip address the web server will listen onnode['kibana']['webserver_port']
- The port the webserver will listen onnode['kibana']['webserver_scheme']
- Scheme helper if webserver is outside of this cookbookhttp://
orhttps://
node['kibana']['nginx']['template']
- The template file to use for the nginx site configurationnode['kibana']['nginx']['template_cookbook']
- The cookbook containing said templatenode['kibana']['nginx']['enable_default_site']
- Should we disable the nginx default site (default: true)
node['kibana']['apache']['template']
- The template file to use for the apache site configurationnode['kibana']['apache']['template_cookbook']
- The cookbook containing said templatenode['kibana']['apache']['enable_default_site']
- Should we disable the apache default site (default: true)
The default recipe will:
- install kibana3 from
master
into/opt/kibana/master
and create a symlink calledcurrent
in the same directory tomaster
- install
nginx
and serve the kibana application
If you want to use the zipfile distribution of Kibana update node['kibana']['install_type']
attribute to zipfile
. Set node['kibana']['zipfile_checksum']
to appropriate sha256 value of latest zipfile.
If you wish to swap apache
for nginx
, simply set node['kibana']['webserver']
to apache
in a role/environment/node somewhere.
If you don't want this cookbook to handle the webserver config simply set node['kibana']['webserver']
to ''
in a role/environment/node somewhere.
Please note that in this case you have to set node['kibana']['user']
.
Both cookbooks, by default, will configure the appropriate proxy to your ElasticSearch server such that you don't have to expose it to the world.
NOTE
There is NO security enabled by default on any of the content being served.
If you would like to modify the nginx
or apache
parameters, you should:
- create your own cookbook i.e.
my-kibana
- copy the template for the webserver you wish to use to your cookbook
- modify the template as you see fit (add auth, setup ssl)
- use the appropriate webserver template attributes to point to your cookbook and template
Requires Vagrant >= 1.2 with the following plugins :
- vagrant-berkshef
- vagrant-omnibus
$ vagrant up ubuntu1204
If you get the following error then run vagrant provision ubuntu1204
. For some reason on my box it's occasionally failing to launch the shell provisioner.
[ubuntu1204] Running: inline script
stdin: is not a tty
The following SSH command responded with a non-zero exit status.
Vagrant assumes that this means the command failed!
chmod +x /tmp/vagrant-shell && /tmp/vagrant-shell
This should be a quicker test suite than Vagrant. However I'm currently hitting this bug : chrisroberts/vagabond#40. In theory the following should work
vagabond up ubuntu1204
$ bundle install
$ bundle exec berks install
$ bundle exec strainer test
- Fork the repository on Github
- Create a named feature branch (like
add_component_x
) - Write you change
- Write tests for your change (if applicable)
- Run the tests, ensuring they all pass
--
bundle exec strainer test
- Submit a Pull Request using Github
