§ Interview Questions

Neutral Questions

Positive Questions

  • What is your greatest strength?
  • What is your greatest accomplishment?
  • What is the professional achievement you’re most proud of?
  • Give an example of when you showed leadership qualities.
  • Give an example of when you performed well under pressure.

Negative Questions

  • Why did you leave your last job?
    • Keep it positive and focus on growth. Avoid negativity/resentment.

  • What is your greatest weakness?
  • Tell me about a challenge or conflict you’ve faced at work, and how you dealt with it.
  • What’s a time you disagreed with a decision that was made at work?
  • Tell me about a time you made a mistake.
  • What do you think your last company/organization could've done better?

Note: Be wary of joining companies that ask too many negative questions/ well on your answers. Steer the interview in a positive direction.

Advice from Life Work Balance

  1. Role-specific:
    • How will my performance be measured in this position?
    • Could you tell me what a typical day or week looks like in this position?
    • What do you want the person in this position to accomplish in their first 30, 60 and 90 days?
    • What are the next steps in the interview process?
    • What challenges or opportunities do you foresee this position taking on in the next six months?
  2. Hesitation:
    • Based on what we talked about today, is there anything that is causing you hesitation about my fit for this position?
    • Do you have any hesitations about my qualifications?
    • Is there anything I can clarify for you?
    • Have I answered all of the questions that you have for me?
    • How do I compare to other candidates you've interviewed for this role?
  3. Culture:
    • What's your favorite part about working here?
    • What do you love most about your job?
    • What makes people stay with this organisation?
    • What are the biggest challenges or opportunities that this organisation or department is facing in the next months to a year?
    • How would you describe the work environment here?
