Hi my name is Juan C. Montes-Herrera

Marine Biologist, Remote Sensing, Ethnobotany

I received my PhD in 2023 from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) at the University of Tasmania in Hobart, Australia. I have a BSci in Marine Biology from the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur (BCS, Mexico). Co-founded the DIY-bio laboratory Laboratorios Cardon (La Paz, BCS).

  • πŸ—Ί I'm based in Hobart, Australia
  • πŸ‡²πŸ‡½ From Mexico
  • 🌊 Studying ecosystem mapping in general, 🧠 coralline algae in particular.
  • πŸ‘¨πŸ½β€πŸ’» Learning Python, Photogrammetry, and Imaging Spectroscopy
  • 🀝  I'm open to collaborating on Biodiversity, Remote Sensing, Conservation.

Current projects

  • Acquisition of structural complexity metrics from Antarctic benthic communities with underwater photogrammetry πŸ›πŸšπŸ™
  • Applications of Imaging Spectroscopy (Hyperspectral Imaging) to characterize Antarctic Coralline Algae 🧠
  • Hyperspectral imaging to classify marine beach debris β™»
  • Code development for F.A.I.R. image analysis in marine biology πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’»
