Funny fact: there doesn't seem to be a suggestion for an emoji for 'stone' even though some people use the two words as synonym whereas in some forms in British English they are related but not quite the same thing.

Perhaps in your readings of LR you have noticed Tolkien use the two different words in different contexts.
