What

  • Rewrites What is Filecoin as a short overview: why use Filecoin, what you can do, and where to go next.
  • Adds How Filecoin works: store, prove, pay, and retrieve on one page, with a diagram and alt text. It replaces How storage works, How retrieval works, and Storage model.
  • Adds Choose a storage option: compares warm storage, Filecoin Pin, the Filecoin Cold Storage Service, Fil One, and other managed services, with prices as of October 2026. It replaces Upload to Filecoin, Storage onramps, and Storage market.
  • Adds Paths: an index plus five pages for AI developers, enterprise developers, storage platforms and resellers, IPFS users, and storage providers.
  • Updates Welcome with the five path cards and an "Is Filecoin right for your data?" row (pricing, security, reliability).
  • Updates SUMMARY.md to the new Get Started nav. Pages moving to other sections are listed under a temporary "Moving to other sections" group until those sections land.
  • Removes the replaced pages and the Community pages, and adds redirects for each. 92 existing redirects that pointed at removed pages now point at their replacements, including 4 that still pointed at the deleted Filecoin Plus page.
  • Updates 10 links in other pages that pointed at removed pages.
  • Uses "onchain" throughout, matching Store Data and the rest of the docs.

Notes for review

  • One commit per page, so each page can be reviewed on its own.
  • Links to Core Concepts, Guides, and Protocol pages point to their planned paths. They resolve as those sections land.
  • The Quickstart isn't changed.
  • Talk to sales uses a placeholder link (TALK_TO_SALES_LINK) on Welcome, Enterprise developers, and Storage platforms.

Open questions

  • Talk to sales: which link to use.
  • Prices: state live prices in docs, or link to a pricing page that stays current?
  • Do the FCSS Archive and Backup tiers have separate prices?
  • Should Fil One stay in the comparison table, or move under Managed services?
  • How does Filecoin's cost compare with a pinning service? There's no published source, so Migrate from IPFS answers "what does it cost" instead.
  • Can I delete my data? The SDK has an irreversible deletePiece(). How soon do providers remove the bytes, is deletion provable, and what happens to FCSS deals before their term ends?
  • Storage provider minimum disk: the agent quickstart says 1 TiB NVMe plus 10 TiB+ HDD, and the PDP install page says about 100 GB plus storage. Which is current?
  • Enterprise developers is drafted from the IA journeys, ahead of the enterprise narrative.

I’d keep the diagram in How Filecoin works. The retrieval arrow makes it clear that the provider serves the file. Two things I’d change:

  • The warm storage row names the filecoin CLI, but if I follow the Quickstart and choose “CLI,” I land on Filecoin Pin. I’d link filecoin directly to its guide and make the copy count explicit. filecoin put stores one copy, and the SDK defaults to two.
  • In Migrate from IPFS, “any public IPFS gateway” is too broad. A gateway can display the file and still return data the migration tool can’t verify. I’d bring ipfs2foc probe <cid> --gateway <url> into that answer so readers can check one CID before moving a batch.

On the pricing question, Filecoin Cloud already compares two-copy storage with what pinning plans charge above their included allowance. I’d link to that from the cost answer. Pricing comparison
