Version 0.9 of EBU-TT Part 3 (Live Subtitling) was published in December 2015 as a development version for prototype implementation.

In order to develop the standard and to promote its adoption, the EBU wishes to create a repository of open-source software modules (components) that can be used by broadcasters, service providers, developers, testers and other interested parties.

Referred to collectively as 'Interoperability toolkit', these modules will be developed by the community and be available through a BSD 3 License. The toolkit is intended to deliver the following objectives:

  • Validate the specification through implementing tools for generating, consuming, processing and distributing EBU-TT Part 3 documents.
  • Make available tools for implementers to validate their own solutions based on EBU-TT Part 3 and increase the interoperability of solutions in general.

This wiki contains information and release planning relating to the open source toolkit project only. For information about the specification itself (which this toolkit implements), and about the work done by the EBU-TT subtitles group, start here.
