this is a little set of shell scripts for introducing people

HISTORY

i found in 2010-2011 i was making a lot of intros. so i made a shell script. If you ever got an email from me and the time zone was "NYC", you got one of these intros. congrats.

PHILOSOPHY

laziness. try introducing people to each other via, eg.,

% ii smith jones

(i called it ii because it's easy to type) and ii will tell you what it lacks and create a shell script called 'orly' that will help you write what you lack. satisfyingly, you do so by typing "orly", like you're IMing with a stroppy collaborator who just won't make the intro. if ii lacks nothing, just send the .eml file produced, or pipe to mutt, if that's the way you roll. (i have scripts for that, natch, but that's a bit dependent on your individual mise-en-place ( https://github.com/chrishwiggins/mise )).

USAGE

first usage: "make" makes directories trash and bios and executables orly and spells (for spellchecking) as well as an example .eml file "[email protected]"

see screendump.asc for example usage.

REQUIREMENTS

1. you must have an executable somewhere in path named 'web' which launches a web browser. to start i made it a shell script, naturally, but you should change.

2. you must have $EDITOR defined.

OUTPUTS

• auxdirs:
  bios: ii will make a directory bios/ where you put your biographies. the syntax admits "+" for newlines (so don't use "+" except as a magic character) and, from writing too much .tex, i chose % as the comment character. trash: things get moved to trash with date post-pended in case you are a hoarder (i am)

• auxfiles: orly: cmd file with whatever you need to do next. spells: spellcheck command on the bios edits: edit the bios

• outfile: tag1_tag2.eml: a mutt-parseable .eml file. send as you like (i pipe to mutt using mutts.sh)

don't worry about word-wrapping, unix (and thus ii) does that for you.
