(Tagging @carpentries/core-team-workshop-admin for review and discussion. Input also welcome from Trainers/others ❤️)

As discussed in previous Trainers meetings and internally with the Workshops and Instruction Team, this would replace the individual event websites that currently need to be built from https://github.com/carpentries/training-template.

You can preview what these changes look like at https://tobyhodges.github.io/solid-spoon/training_info.html

Some notes, relative to the current content in the training website template:

  • Removes link to etherpad
  • Assumes trainees will know who their Trainers will be, I guess from the initial info email they receive about the event (the one that links them to this page)?
  • Removes the (commented out) suggested schedule table for a 4 half-day training. Maybe this should be added to the Instructor Notes for the curriculum?
  • Presents info largely on the assumption that training will take place online via Zoom. I did include some notes about what would be different if the event takes place in-person, though.
  • The page says, of the pre-training survey, that "You will receive a custom link for your event when you receive your connection information." Is this accurate?

Thank you!

Thank you for your pull request 😃

🤖 This automated message can help you check the rendered files in your submission for clarity. If you have any questions, please feel free to open an issue in {sandpaper}.

If you have files that automatically render output (e.g. R Markdown), then you should check for the following:

  • 🎯 correct output
  • 🖼️ correct figures
  • ❓ new warnings
  • ‼️ new errors

Rendered Changes

🔍 Inspect the changes: https://github.com/carpentries/instructor-training/compare/md-outputs..md-outputs-PR-1732

The following changes were observed in the rendered markdown documents:

 config.yaml            |   1 +
 instructor-notes.md    |   4 +-
 md5sum.txt             |   5 ++-
 training_info.md (new) | 101 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
 4 files changed, 107 insertions(+), 4 deletions(-)
What does this mean?

If you have source files that require output and figures to be generated (e.g. R Markdown), then it is important to make sure the generated figures and output are reproducible.

This output provides a way for you to inspect the output in a diff-friendly manner so that it's easy to see the changes that occur due to new software versions or randomisation.

Thanks for putting this all together @tobyhodges
When this is merged, can we plan to archive this repo? https://github.com/carpentries/training-template

For any other review about what content needs to be included on this page, I would defer to @sheraaronhurt

@maneesha's question reminded me to remove the instruction to create that website if we are replacing it. We should also check the handbook for references to it if we replace it?

Absolutely. However, we do still use the template for Collaborative Lesson Development Training events. I will need to develop an alternative over there as well, if we are to remove the need for the training-template altogether.

Indeed. Would you like me to take care of that?

(pre-coffee misread initially) Yes, I would like you to take care of the handbook.

We should probqably also do a more thorough search of this repo

Noting that we will launch our redesigned, reorganised, updated community handbook in December. That might be a great time to merge this.
