A GitHub issue within the [arviz-project](https://github.com/arviz-devs/arviz-project)
repository has been created for nominations to take place: https://github.com/arviz-devs/arviz-project/issues/49

### First round election (TBD)
Around April 26th (and no earlier than that) nominations will close and
the {ref}`first round of the election <initial_voting_election>` will start.
The nomination period closed on April 27th with 6 people having been nominated.

### Tie breaking election (if necessary) (TBD)
If necessary, a {ref}`tie breaking election <run_off_election>` will be held after the initial one.
### First round election (April 27th)
The {ref}`first round of the election <initial_voting_election>` started after that,
with Claudia Alvarado from NumFOCUS acting as election moderator.
Voting forms were sent to everyone elegible to vote and it was open until May 9th.

### Election result (TBD)
Once the whole process ends, election results will be posted on the
same GitHub issue used for nominations and registered here too.
### Election result (May 9th)
The council elected from the first round election fulfilled all requirements
established in the ArviZ governance. Consequently, no {ref}`tie breaking election <run_off_election>` was needed.

Results from the election were the following:

| Vote | Oriol Abril Pla | Ari Hartikainen | Seth Axen | Colin Carroll | Andy Maloney | Osvaldo Martin |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yes | 14 | 12 | 14 | 15 | 8 | 14 |
| Neutral | 2 | 4 | 2 | 1 | 8 | 2 |
| No | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |

with a participation of 16 people out of the 46 who could vote.

Following the selection criteria outlined in {ref}`the governance page <initial_voting_election>`,
from these votes a 5 people council is elected, comprised of:

* @OriolAbril
* @aloctavodia
* @ColCarroll
* @ahartikainen
* @sethaxen
