Intro

Hi, this is my fiendly pacman-os. It's mainly based on two sources

About OS and hypervisor_last and how they are booting in the bare-metal

pacman-os: does boot in the text mode (neither 13h nor 12h) on the bare-metal, but the vga_640_480 branch doesn't work on the bare-metal

OS: neither VGA (13h) not VESA VBE boot on the bare-metal.

hypervisor_last: does boot on the bare metal in the VGA (13h).

Requirements for the new versions with gcc and w/o i686-elf

No need for i686-elf and it's still working on the bare-metal.

sudo zypper in make nasm mtools qemu gcc

Requirements for the old versions with the protected mode and i686-elf

1. Install

sudo zypper in make nasm mtools qemu gcc
sudo cp /usr/sbin/mkfs.fat /usr/bin/     # when working as non-root

sudo zypper in -y git makeinfo gcc-c++ gmp-devel mpfr-devel mpc-devel
sudo zypper in -y nasm mtools qemu gcc

2. configure environment variables

export TARGET=i686-elf
export PREFIX="$HOME/Workspace/Toolchain/i686-elf"
export PATH="$PREFIX/bin:$PATH"
export TOOLCHAIN=$PREFIX

into ~/.bashrc

3. compile gcc

../gcc-13.2.0/configure --target=$TARGET --prefix=$PREFIX --disable-nls --enable-languages=c,c++ --without-headers
make all-gcc
make all-target-libgcc
make install-gcc
make install-target-libgcc

Compiling

cd pacman-os
make

Running

make run

Requirements for the oldest versions with the real-mode
