Gtfslib is a python library for reading and processing planned public transport offer data in the GTFS format, designed for computing various indicators based on schedules and lines.

The French minister of transport Agency for Ticketing and Multimodal Information - AFIMB is responsible for monitoring the national transport and mobility open data policy, which is in the French law since August 2015, and supports the data opening movement that should follow in 2016 and beyond.

The most used format for open data Public Transport open data publication is GTFS. The most commonly used language for transport and territorial analyses studies (at least in France) is arguably the Python language.

With the goal of fostering a community of transport data reusers and open source tools contributors in mind, the AFIMB awarded in december 2015 a contract for the provision of an open source python library which would ease GTFS data reuse for producing indicators and analysing the Public Transport offer. The library should be designed so as to be extensible by third parties.

The contract has been awarded to MECATRAN and the developement is supervised by CEREMA (http://www.territoires-ville.cerema.fr/information-multimodale-r213.html). The first version of the library has been published in March 2016 under GPLV3 license.

This library is open source, so contributions are welcome, wether it be for signalling bug or any issues, or proposing corrections, merci. Please contact us for any basic ou more technical questions.
