ARV & HIV/HRDT Treatment Distribution Analysis (Africa) πŸŒπŸ’ŠπŸ“¦

Author: Swapnil Herwadkar

Tools Used: Tableau, Excel, XLMiner

Scope: Public Health, Supply Chain Analytics, Healthcare Logistics

πŸ“Œ Project Overview This project focuses on analyzing the distribution of Antiretroviral (ARV) treatments and HIV/HRDT lab testing kits across various African countries. Leveraging Tableau for visualization and Excel for data transformation, the goal was to assess shipment patterns, vendor performance, delivery timeliness, and market coverage. The analysis supports data-driven decision-making in the global healthcare supply chain, improving access to life-saving medications.

🎯 Objectives Map the geographical spread and volume of ARV and HIV-related shipments.

Evaluate vendor performance and identify delays in delivery.

Determine the most common dosage forms and brands.

Provide actionable insights to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the medical supply chain.

πŸ—ƒοΈ Dataset Source: Shipment records from 2006 to 2015.

Fields Included: Country, Vendor, Shipment Mode, Dosage Form, Delivery Dates, Weight, Prices, Brands.

πŸ›  Methodology Data Cleaning: Removed irrelevant columns, handled garbage and missing values, standardized units and categorical fields.

Transformation: Created calculated fields such as shipment delay, delivery efficiency, total pack price, and late delivery percentage.

Visualization: Interactive Tableau dashboards covering:

Shipment volume by country

Most delayed vendors

Delivery status by shipment mode

Product pricing and market value

πŸ“ˆ Key Insights Air Freight was the most used and efficient shipment mode.

Tablet was the most common dosage form.

11.86% of deliveries were late, with Cipla Limited being the vendor with the highest delay rate.

South Africa had the highest volume of shipments, aligning with the highest HIV burden.

Average product weight was ~3479 kg, with significant variation across shipment types and regions.

πŸ” Dashboards & Analysis Highlights Shipment Delay Analysis: Line and bar charts visualize trends and high-delay vendors.

Geospatial Mapping: Country-wise distribution and shipment density.

Vendor Ranking: Top 10 vendors based on shipment volume and delay percentage.

Pricing Breakdown: Analysis of unit, pack price, and market value across dosage forms.

πŸ’‘ Recommendations Prioritize air freight for urgent or temperature-sensitive products.

Improve partnerships or performance contracts with high-delay vendors.

Use dashboards to monitor country-specific delivery efficiency and adjust planning cycles accordingly.

Incorporate demand forecasting and inventory levels in future analyses for better stock management.

🌍 Social Impact This project supports efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across Africa by providing transparency into ARV and HIV test kit distribution. By enabling proactive supply chain decisions, it contributes to improving treatment access and reducing healthcare disparities in regions most affected by HIV/AIDS.
