Design and development of a multilingual Alexa skill for student academic and leisure support -- Final Degree Project

The intrusion of technology into people's daily lives has brought numerous advantages in most areas of life, but it has also brought with it some problems. One of these problems is the loss of concentration when performing a single task, mostly due to the over-stimulation that comes from being surrounded by so many electronic devices which constantly emit stimuli.

This problem has a great impact on students, who, being surrounded by external stimuli, have lost a large part of their concentration and are unable to make the most of their study time. In order to solve this problem as far as possible, the "Buddy Thomas" application has been developed. This multilingual application aims to be the only external device that a person uses during study time. It has the ability to automatically orchestrate time-contrasted study methods, as well as to establish a personalized study period to adapt to the characteristics of each person, as each individual is different and has different concentration times.

As concentration is not infinite and there are times when it is necessary to disconnect, during break times it is possible to request different types of data such as jokes, curious facts or ephemeris, as well as recreational activities such as riddles or playing trivia. The same application is also able to give the user advice on how to carry out study-related activities such as studying, relaxing, learning or concentrating.

For this application to be effective, it has to be immersed in a system that is as unobtrusive as possible, which is why it has been developed within the "Alexa" ecosystem to be accessible by voice. As all the interaction will be done through the use of voice, it is necessary to adapt it to a conversational model.
