The Unity Root Motion Tutorial is a tutorial for teaching animators how to use root motion in Unity. Its goal is to broaden your reach as an animator / creator in Unity. It aims to explain the core concepts behind root motion, what root motion is, and how to apply it in Unity. This tutorial will NOT teach you any animation skills. All animations for this tutorial are provided. At a leasurly pace, this tutorial is expected to take around 2 hours.
This tutorial expects you are:
- Comfortable using the Unity Engine layout.
It is recommended to install this tutorial in a new Unity project, with no scriptable render pipeline (like URP or HDRP) installed.
To follow the tutorial, download the latest release. Unzip the folder and put it inside your Unity project "Packages" folder. You can quickly find this folder by opening your Unity project, right-clicking your "Packages" folder and selecting "Show in Finder / Explorer".
Note:
Following the instructions on the Package Manager documentation, which is usually the recommended installation procedure, won't work because it is not allowed to open a scene in a read-only package.
After having done so, the tutorial may start right away. If it doesn't start right away, click on "Tutorials > Welcome Dialog" in the toolbar to start the tutorial manually.
