The Power-Aware Disk Scheduling (PADS) algorithm optimizes disk I/O by balancing power consumption and seek time. Using a modified SCAN approach, the disk head moves in one direction to service requests, reversing only when it reaches the last request or end of the disk. If the next request is beyond a defined distance threshold, the algorithm simulates entering a low-power mode, which reduces unnecessary disk head movement and conserves energy. This approach helps minimize power usage while maintaining efficient request servicing.
