This is a blog post exploring how 2i2c's infrastructure could be used to facilitate reproducible execution for communities, and potentially integrated into publishing pipelines. It comes off of a bunch of conversations I took part in at Janelia in Washington DC, and after several conversations I had with @colliand around these ideas before and after. It's similar in ideas to the AGU talk that Jim recently posted, and I've linked his talk at the bottom for further reference. @colliand if you like I am happy for you to be a co-author on this one, but for now it's just myself because I wanted to give you the invitation first.

I'd love feedback (particularly from @colliand ) about whether these convey the high-level ideas around sharing and communication on a hub, and how it could fit in with publishing pipelines. I don't think it's critical to post this immediately, but I wanted to get the ideas up while they're fresh. (cc also @jnywong who might be queuing up a stub post about Jim's talk - I feel like we could still post that one too since it is more specific than this one, and then cross-link them).

I like it! Thanks for writing this up Chris. Yes, I'd be happy to co-author a version of this piece. Let's aim to collect edits and release a version in early January?

I will pick this up and review for publication this week.

Thanks @colliand - I'd like to get this published on Thursday, so that we can shift our efforts to thinking through the business model and potential pitch to HHMI. Is that realistic?

I've made some minor edits. I think the main improvement we need to make is to update the diagrams so they're a bit easier to follow.

This has shifted in scope a bit

After some conversation with @colliand , I decided to contextualize the sharing/publishing points here with the broader knowledge creation lifecycle. At the same time, I decided to create figures for each stage of the lifecycle for this post, but also so that we can re-use them in talks or promotional materials.

At this point, the post is more like an idea for the major areas where we want to do work in the coming year(s) and a point about sustainability at the very end. I'm curious if folks think this is too much, if there's something missing, and if there's something that needs more focus.

This post follows nicely from the end-of-year retrospective, which outlines ambitions and ideas for the new year, so I wouldn't worry much about its length. Thank you for such a great write-up!
