I've built a small example for rendering GeoJSON on a globe that I would be happy to contribute to the ipyvolume example gallery, if anybody is interested, maybe in exchange of getting some feedback to other tickets. ;) See attached clip.

Really nice work, I'm a bit busy on other projects right now, but this is absolutely not forgotten. A while ago I saw a geopandas talk, and I instantly though I should do what you did here. This is also asking for some kind of polygon hover event, to get feedback above which region you are hovering.

Any chance to move forward? Also, I see many other open tickets and the code base increasingly appears to be in a "frozen" state which would be really a pity...
