Tab complete doesn't work with environmental variables

Describe the bug

Typing `~/src/` + <tab> works, but


SRC=~/src
$SRC/

• should produce the same result and it does not

### To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce:
1. Set an environmental variable to any valid directory path
2. type the variable and attempt to tab complete
