Invoke check as user

Is there any way to manually allow the checking for updates of a project as user?

You know that it can take a while for checking of projects (up to 1 week?).
It would be great to allow non-maintainers to manually invoke the check for updates,
without bothering the maintainer.

I guess its tricky because every check consumes resources and there's a risk for spam invocations.
Maybe a time limit for invocations (e.g. 1 per hour max) could prevent that.
