Hi folks,

I have a straightforward feature suggestion; Have you considered adding a contact details page to the website? I would be interested in seeing if anyone wants to standardize a public API for publishing events - it's something I started working on for http://LanList.org .

Thanks for your consideration!,

Hi,

Currently the idea is that individual LANs can put whatever details they want onto their "member" page, including contact information. I think we probably do need a drive to remind people to complete their page.

In terms of contacting "uklans" as an overall entity, that's pending some internal work to finalise its structure / way of working (which is underway). Until that's all finalised and approved, we are mostly just a collection of individual groups/LANs contributing to several projects and there isn't really any one person that could respond to enquires etc on behalf of everyone else.

So a sensible suggestion, but one I don't think we are in a position to implement just at the moment.

Thanks,

Okay dokey, thanks ;)

I'm still interested in seeing if your "member LANs" are interested in implementing a standardized API for publishing event details. Would it be appropriate to raise a separate issue for this, or should I do something different?

A bit of extra context; my thought process is to create a basic "event publishing" specification, and a repository with a reference implementation or two in PHP and NodeJS for example, and contribute it to the UKLANs GitHub organisation under AGPL or similar. Hopefully, if various UK LANs see value in this, they would consider adding it to their websites, allowing for easier event sharing on listing sites.

Are you on the UK Lans discord? Definitely sounds like something that could be interesting to work on if you are volunteering to implement it ;)

Hey,

Oh of course ;) ... perhaps you could put a Discord link/invite on the website? - solves this issue/ticket ;)

I am absolutely volunteering to implement the event sharing code - and help out LANs with other code too. I actually wrote the vast majority of the code for WestLAN (including all of http://github.com/jamesread/lan-party-site and various others) and was staff there for a pretty long time. I decided to go my separate ways to WestLAN after I was a bit of a jerk, and we had a few disagreements about how to plan things. But!, I'm really interested in sharing Open Source code to other LANs so they can benefit ;)
