Describe the new feature or enhancement idea

Hi!

I have two firewalls running in High Availability connection. I would love to have the opportunity to see the status of the connection, or at least which of my firewalls is currently providing the internet access.

Any chance you could implement this? I will be happy to assist as far as I can (not much time myself, often only available via phone -> small display)

Will you be building this?

  • I intend to submit a PR to implement this

Additional Details

i don't think I can add much here

It looks like this in my current dashboard:

How do you see from that widget which instance is providing internet access?

The integration provides two sensors, a binary one and a sensor, mapping these API endpoints:

Can you post what these sensors show in your HA instance? I don't have CARP, so I don't know. :)

I've seen the carp status. It shows "up" for both, main and secodary. I think it just watches if the carp interface is up and connected with another endpoint

In the widget, the status should switch to, errr, something else when the Internet connection / overall status on the main device drops. I'll disconnect Internet on the main later today and post an update ❤️

I disconnected my fiber WAN cable and it immediately looked like this:

After a second or two, it changed to "backup" too for the fiber WAN gateway

The opnsense main's status of carp in HA never changed during the downtime:

The downtime was at about 19:28 o'clock
