openSUSE:Factory is the repository for the rolling edition of openSUSE, openSUSE Tumbleweed. this "error" is excepted as openSUSE does not host distribution repositories under /repositories prefix.

If you are using openSUSE Tumbleweed (rolling edition), you can install it with zypper without adding additional repositories. but if you are using openSUSE Leap (non-rolling edition), you need to add the experimental devel:languages:python repository as indicated by this openSUSE software information page.

Do not mix rolling and non-rolling repositories on your openSUSE installation, it could cause very bad things to happen.

@Fei1Yang, I do, but then why does it state that the repository should be added?

You are finding software in the wrong place.

Use https://software.opensuse.org instead of https://build.opensuse.org, on software.opensuse.org if it's marked as "Official", then you can install it with zypper without additional steps, build.opensuse.org is only a build service and it will always points to the repositories it manages, no matter they are distribution repositories or not.

@Fei1Yang, I always access https://build.opensuse.org/ from https://software.opensuse.org/ because it's the primary source it links to. I'm not certain what you really refer to, since https://software.opensuse.org/ only directs to https://build.opensuse.org/ for download and installation.

For example:

  1. https://software.opensuse.org/package/konsole

Apologies, I can't provide an example currently due to

screenshot-software opensuse org-2023 10 14-21_44_57

affecting all of the https://software.opensuse.org/package/* URIs.
