Let's address these comments from Claire prior to sending out the new POD test:

  • The current image before the Introduction isn't a very strong piece, and the close-up shows much dirt in the cracks. Can we select a piece that is in better condition (and not so obviously "out of the ground")? Cat. 24 is good, or top half of cat. 29, or cat. 34?
  • Image of mask for the Catalogue---I am seeing two halves of this object on separate pages...confusing. It is jarring to see this "grotesque" piece from Sicily immediately before Orpheus...can we look for another one? Is a banner even needed here, since the catalogue section starts with a strong image?
  • Image before "Guide"...it's BW, and on it's own page? Not sure it's working well.

  • Changing the image before the Introduction is straightforward – we can just find another detail.
  • The mask image is working as intended – we thought it was appropriate to open the catalogue section with an image, and to avoid blank pages it needs to be a 2-page spread. The mask is one of the only images that can work well in full-bleed format across two pages (really the only other is the fragment of a head, which is being used as the opener of the entire book). I would argue with keeping this image in.
  • We could remove the image from the guide or replace with something else. Right now it is using the same opening image that the web version has – if we change in one place we may want to change in both.

So, with the intro, please try one of the ones she suggested: Cat. 24 is good, or top half of cat. 29, or cat. 34. With the Guide, let's leave for now and I'll explain. For the Mask a significant part of her concern is about the content juxtapositions in it immediately preceding the Orpheus, so if there's not another image or detail (?) that will work across the two spreads, we should have that spread as a full-bleed solid color.

Here is an updated PDF with some design tweaks:

  • New image to open catalogue (I think Claire is a fan of the Goddess image, that's one of the best)
  • New introduction image

Also the index is included and has been styled to look "indexy".

Yes, very indexy!

My only comment is that I think it's important that the goddess image is more of a cropped detail and not so much like the plate images

@ruthlane what do you think?

So this is ready to go unless we change the image for the guide, correct?
