Thanks developers, awesome that we have the privacy focused client!

That would be really great if the client can delete messages automatically after configurable period of time in defined rooms or chats, like it works in Signal and Telegram.

I know that Synapse has ephemeral messages support, but it could be a pure client feature as well.

It won't be happening any time soon, I'm afraid. I did this dance with PR #660.

Synapse's implementation of MSC2228 (Ephemeral/Disappearing messages) is partial, and according to the upstream devs not fit for client implementation

@EdGeraghty , I guess disappearing messages makes more sense to be enabled for 1-1 chat/ directChat.
Group chat use case get more complicated and confusing.

How about having a toggle in the setting saying enable disappearing message for direct chat.

And when a direct chat is created if the both the participants having the the feature enabled would be able to send disappearing message to each other.
