Since windows 7 (I never used vista) I was very dissatisfied with the windows search feature, as it relayed more on indexing that on strait forward search and was more oriented towards file content than to normal filename wildcard search. (Like it was in Win XP and before)
It's a pity that to that to get back a decent file search you need to get a payed 3rd party tool like https://www.mythicsoft.com/filelocatorpro/
Now with windows 10 its even worse as the windows search is basically Cortana and that's a peace of spyware that wants to send all your search queries to Bing. So mo more searching for your Pr0n using windows search ;)

there should be a full replacement for the entire windows search functionality.
There are basically 3 aspects to such a feature:

  1. basic functionality, typing app names in the shell and starting them (with good misspelling tolerance)
  2. advanced file search like provided by 3rd party tools
  3. indexing based search for those who like that

Since this suggestion seems more fit for Windows Sharp, I’ll transfer it over there. Such a feature is on our radar right now and we will begin work on search soon.
