Tiles not found

Seems like a lot of tiles are missing nowadays... is the rendering still running on maps.stamen.com?

on zoom level 18 I can not see anything anywhere.

I see that several issues have been filed about missing or outdated tiles for different varieties of Stamen maps. It seems to me that Stamen is unmaintained. Perhaps this is well known, but I did not come across any official statement about this.
