The research driven section should show a striped map of nodes in the Bitcoin network. Ideally it is colored with the Ombuds color pallet, but a place holder could just be something like this:

As extra garnish, the map could pulse with a simple wire transmitting between nodes. It could also be dynamic in some future where we have unlimited time and energy.

Map is up with pulsing ombuds nodes. Needs accurate node location data for the cities csv and lines between each node.

Great, looks good. @alexkuck has a list of major cities with geo coordinates. Will ping him momentarily.

One tid bit would be reduce the vertical height. (you could for example cut a band out) Nobody in Antartica runs this!

1000 cities via lat and lon: http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/cities1000.zip
there are options for 5000 and 15000 here as well. All of this is released under CCby3.0 http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/
