Why use the Affero GPL. This seems a toxic choice to me with several companies banning its use, including the one I work at.

Is it possible to change the license?

Or alternatively, how much is a commercial license and does that remove he AGPL restrictions?

If the company you work for is processing SEG Y data, I'm guessing they are a for-profit enterprise with a budget for acquiring, buying and processing that data. Sixty North is also a for-profit corporation with various costs, not least the development and maintenance of libraries such as segpy.

We provide segpy under the terms of the AGPL to be able to benefit from the upside of open source (wide distribution, community contributions, transparency) without being unduly exposed to having our efforts exploited by other corporations for profit without compensation.

We are open to negotiating terms for a fully commercial license to segpy which is completely free from the encumbrances of the AGPL. Typically, such an agreement may also include access to ongoing maintenance and support and access to high-performance proprietary versions (in C++, but usable from Python) of particular segpy components.

If you are working in a non-profit, charitable or academic setting, but are still unable to use the AGPL version we will be able to provide an appropriately licensed version for a small, nominal fee.
