svrl.xsl uses the sch:assert role attribute when generating svrl:failed-assert elements. So when the sch:assert role attribute is not defined it gets output as null in the report XML. Can the parent sch:rule role attribute be used as a fall-back in this case?

I think this could be done with a compiler parameter $inherit-role as xs:boolean that toggles this behaviour.

The next edition of ISO Schematron will most likely allow dynamic expressions in @ROLE (See: Schematron/schematron-enhancement-proposals#64). The question is, if inheriting the role happens at the schema level, i.e. the sch:assert inherits the @role of the sch:rule -or- if happens at the report level, i.e. a svrl:failed-assert inherits the @role of the svrl:fired-rule.
