When following the description in https://www.sandia.gov/minimega/module-30-networking-minirouter/ vmbetter only builds the initrd and kernel modules but I do not get a working a usable qcow2 image.

Will need to add the -disk -size and -format flags to vm better command to get the qcow image. I'll look into making the documentation better.

I think this issue might be related to an incompatibility I just discovered with the latest "stable" Debian branch and vmbetter.
If you set the branch to "buster" it may fix the issue.
sudo ./bin/vmbetter -branch buster -level debug misc/vmbetter_configs/minirouter.conf
