@sampotter At some point, it might be useful to get a review and publish this code through the Journal of Open Source Software. The review process is quite interesting, well structured, and useful to improve code readability, reliability, get suggestions of best practices (for testing, benchmarking, examples, docu, etc...), ...
Just pinning an idea for the future.
