I've started tagging boxes in the Pittsburgh area along with a survey:date tag. Would something like this be helpful to encourage for others involved in this and include it in the dataset?
We don't have a way yet to bring that into the ap. Would involve synchronizing edits in OSM and making calls to the API

Hi @mikelmaron! I understand that this OSM mapper was adding the survey:date tag in OSM, but this would only be for "present" boxes? I'm curious about how removed boxes should be represented in OSM, if at all. Considering OSM is only supposed to show things that exist, my previous idea of amenity:post_box with operator:USPS_removed may not be appropriate. The other option pointed out to me was a "removed" lifecycle_prefix, but according to this, it seems to have a specific temporary use: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Lifecycle_prefix. I'm wondering about how OSM data, can work well with spot-the-box.
