Hi.

I guess if you have 10pcs TouCan-USB adapters connected to a linux computer at start, you never know which adapter gets can0, can1 etc...

Earlyer i tested peak-system's PCan-USB. Pcan has an ID-value which you can set to 0 - 255. It is stored in the firmware in the USB-Adapter.

Does TouCan-USB have this posbility?
If not,, Posability to add the feature?

Or is there any other way to secure that can0 allways get the correct TouCAN-USB adapter after every reboot?

Yes. Using the serial numbers is a way to go.

Anyway peak-system has this solution.
Status=CAN_GetValue(pcan_device, PCAN_DEVICE_NUMBER, &tmp_device_nr, sizeof(tmp_device_nr));

CAN_GetValue and CAN_SetValue.

There are several registers you can read/write. But One of them is called PCAN_DEVICE_NUMBER.

I will see if I can manage to get the TouCAN-USB serial numbers from C.

I don't remember exactly but seems on TouCAN devices serial number can be changed as well.
Also this serial number is used in USB device descriptor.Need to check then how to PCAN adapter driver assigns interface names using PCAN device number.

Another Question.

How do I detect the adapters.

Before ip link, I can find serial using $ usb-devices | grep TouCAN.
Which gives the output -> S: Product=TouCAN converter s/n: 00005393

With $ lsusb I also see the adapter, but no serial this time.

After $ ip link set can0 up type can bitrate 125000 , I still havent found a way to
view that TouCAN serial:XXXXXX is using can0.

Typing $ ls /dev/can* , gives nothing.
can0 does not exist as an device..

When using Peak-systems I type $ cat /proc/pcan , and get a full list of the connected devices with interrupts and device numbers, status, errors etc. This is not an nessesary feature.

Do you have any smart idea on how to detect what can-device is connected to serial:xxxxxx?

dmesg could be used but will produce a lot of info if device is removed/connected several times.

I found a solution. Not the best. But a way to go.

By installing hwinfo .
By typing $ hwinfo --usb I get the hw-output of all usb's.
