Image Slideshow with DJ set

Hi all!
I'm working on an interactive museum installation that features a Numark Party mix DJ set that controls a slideshow of images from a photographic project around rave culture.

My idea is to make it so turning one of the jog wheels left or right, advances or moves back the slideshow.

I've been trying to set it as a command but it moves erratically as soon as I touch the jog wheel; I'm not too much of a tech guy so I'm struggling with the instructions.
Please let me know if there are any guides I can follow or premade commands schemes I can install.
