How to properly deal with lastname with prefix (like von, van, de) in authorsAlpha when generating a citekey?

I tried the citekey format
authorsAlpha + shortyear
to get alpha-like citekey. Yet it is unlikely to deal with lastname prefixes (von, van , de).

E.g. with authors A, B and von C, it generates ABv instead of ABC or ABvC.

I can take a look. Right-click such an entry, select "Better BibteX" from the popup menu, then "send log". You will get an ID with -refs in it, post that here.

I see. Please open a new issue. You can use this ID. That is not the full ID BTW. The full ID has info on whether you are running the latest BBT/Zotero.

I'm not sure if this thread was ever followed up. Since I ran into the same issue (and since this is a fairly recent thread), I created a debug ID from a ref that has a "de" prefix of the last name:
"PFZLAPH8-refs-euc/✓/✓"

I have stored the author as de Pina-Cabral, João as I assume I should (but please correct me if I'm wrong).
My citekey pattern is:
authEtAl2(creator = "*", initials = false, sep = "_") + "_" + year
which is different from OPs but I believe same question.

I'm getting dePina-Cabral_ ... but would love to see Pina-Cabral_ ... (at least as an option if not by default).

I was adding to this discussion thread because I'm myself not sure how this should be handled (i.e., how these cases should be stored in the database etc., see my comment below). But to have an option to control this would certainly be a valuable addition.

I am second-guessing myself now with my choice of storing it as de Pina-Cabral, João

Some authors (including this one) cite themselves in their own papers as
Pina-Cabral, João de. 2004. "Blabla ..."

In those cases, should it be stored in the bib database as Pina-Cabral, João de (even though technically "de" is not part of the given name)?

I know these prefixes always mess things up ...

In Zotero, prefixes stored in the family name are considered non-dropping particles, and prefixes stored in the given name are considered dropping particles.
