Preflight Checklist

  • Running microsoft-edge:https://google.com redirects successfully
  • Microsoft Edge is selected in any "How do you want to open this?" box

Install Type

New Install

Install Mode

N/A or Unsure

Steps to reproduce

Open "MSEdgeRedirect 0.7.5.3 Setup" (I installed this one via WinGet).

  • Under "Additional Redirections", turn on the "Bing Discover" option.
  • From the dropdown, pick "Custom". You'll find it defaulting to the main Google URL.
  • Put something else in there – like "https://chatgpt.com", since Discover is supposed to be some kind of "AI" (LLM) chatbot.
  • Click OK.
  • Re-open that same option (now, or after "Save" and restarting the Setup app), and you'll find that this option has stubbornly reset back to Google.

This is especially bad, since other kinda-sane options like DuckDuckGo are not available as alternatives, and the other alternatives that are available are all more spy-on-everything-you-do-online entities or are crappy for other reasons (Yahoo, Ask.com, Baidu).

PS: The "Redirect Bing Chat" option should probably go to the same target as the "Bing Discover" redirect, since Discover is the replacement for Chat (which was removed, though people with older OSes and Edge versions would still have it around).

✔️ Expected Behavior

The entered value under "Custom" should of course be saved and used.

❌ Actual Behavior

The "Custom" entry always reverts to "https://www.google.com".
