My question is regarding my desire to enter the tech industry without having a degree in computer science. I dropped out of college, but I have good proficiency in Java, HTML, and React. I have also completed several projects, and I am interested in pursuing a career in DevOps, preferably remote. Can you please advise if it's possible for me to get a job in DevOps without a degree in CS? I would appreciate your response.

Entering the tech industry and securing a DevOps job without a formal computer science degree is possible by demonstrating skills, work ethic, and passion for technology.

That said, let me make it clear that the path is going to be hard. There are no shortcuts to success.

Hiring managers and recruiters often prioritize candidates with proven experience. Therefore, if you need a formal background and are seeking remote work opportunities, it is essential to highlight your skills and make them more visible to the other person. This will help the hiring manager or recruiter make a well-informed decision about your candidacy.

Now, DevOps is an extensive domain. You'll need to figure out what works best for you.

And if you want my personal opinion, based on your current experience, keep reading (don't follow them to the tee, though):

• While you mentioned proficiency in Java, HTML, and React, DevOps typically requires different skills - System Administration, especially Linux, and scripting languages like Python, Bash, etc.

  You will also want to brush up your skills in cloud computing, operating systems like Linux, and more.

• Just as you've done projects related to coding, consider doing some projects related to DevOps. Set up a CI/CD pipeline for apps you've built, deploy a web application using Docker, or automate a cloud environment's setup using Terraform.

• Start Small and Be Persistent. You should start with a more junior or generalized role and work in a specialized DevOps position. Just like formal degrees, don't worry about paid professional certifications. That said, several platforms like (psst. freecodecamp and exampro.co) offer free resources for such professional exams.

Finally, the most important part is not to be discouraged by rejections. Every "no" is a step closer to a "yes."
