Does build config get merged from pyproject.toml and hatch.toml?

Accidentally specified some build config in both pyproject.toml and hatch.toml and it seems that the config in hatch.toml overrides any build config in pyproject.toml. Would it make sense to try and merge the config, with hatch.toml taking precedence over pyproject.toml for any conflicts?

I would prefer not to merge config to keep it simple. I'm interested in hearing arguments in favor of merging however.

Thanks for such a quick reply. Yes, I missed that, my bad; tunnel vision kept me looking in https://hatch.pypa.io/latest/config/build/.

Not sure I can make the best arguments for or against merging, but maybe others will be able to make a strong case either way. In any case, maybe a warning when an override takes place could be helpful. Thanks again!
