We should explore the feasibility of taking advantage of the Web Workers API to calculate paths. This would come in the form of an optional API method to enable this feature, similar to enableSync().

It's probably a little far out, but it would also be interesting to see if we can take advantage of Web Assembly in some way to improve performance.
