Phcode 4.03 Crashed on Ubuntu 24

Read some of other similar cases after reviewing search results results.
I've unchecked the "Enable Git" option.
I've unchecked the "show live preview panel at startup". closed and restarted app. same issue after working with html files for a bit.
Instant crash/hang when managing plugins: soon as I click to install anything, it freezes. Nothing is clickable, even trying to close the app, does nothing. I have to use task manager like "mission center" or "system monitor" to stop it.

I have installed with the wget command posted on the website for ver 4.0.3
my system is Ubuntu 24.04
64 GB RAM, ASUS board, AMD GPU, CPU is Ryzen 9 7900x

Is the problem happening on the default project as well?

When I try working with Extension Manager, yes, that's all that's open and can't close. I haven't tried editing the default project... I will give that a shot soon.

Seems editing the default html is no issue. I even left it on for a few hours after some random edits with live view manually enabled.

After writing that:
I tried adding new project by selecting the "HTML5" from "Start Project..." window. Made very simple edits to existing code, such as adding class and title attributes, even added a new button tag that would trigger a new additional script function to clear the count. It was working as expected. I saved it in a new directory and it crashed/froze as before.

Update: after I saved this project and crashed, I restarted app and opened that same saved folder html and js, modified few more basic things, app still running sitting there right now (after 1hr). Will leave open overnight and try more edits tomorrow.

Have you any chance opened a git project with a large number of untracked files?

Untracked files can be files in node_modules

I don't use git... are you recommending I should?
Just feels like this should be able to work as standalone software. Sometimes work offline and on the road. multiple folders stored on the drive I carry.

Git isnt mandatory, there is a bug we are tracking where if the folder opened is a git project with a large number of untracked files, then Phoenix can hang for a while. But if its not a Git project, that will not be the issue. @charlypa was trying to rule out if its that bug caused by git.

Appears that its a normal folder outside git then. BTW, what do mean by saved it to a new directory? Can you give step by step instructions to help us recreate the issue.

'Saved to new directory' as in click "File > Save As" locate new path and click save.
I'll try the entire step by step and see if it does it again.
FWIW, I left the new project open overnight, came back 20h+ tried couple more edits and still no issues.

Acting badly as usual, before attempting to repeating the previous steps. All I did was try closing out the existing folder/contents by displaying the default project. Asked me if I want to restore or discard, I clicked discard, i saw the html, I don't think i did anything else from here, then noticed it being unresponsive again when I tried scrolling down to see more toward the bottom of the html.
Forcing close, now attempting to repeat editing HTML5.

1. Open PHCode app. I see the default project on left pane, below "Left" & "Right" (not sure what these are yet). Right pane is blank.
2. I click top-left folder-plus icon to start project.
3. Click 2nd icon for "HTML5".
4. Named it "project1" (no path change: /home/jeff/Documents/Phoenix Code/), I click "Create Project".
5. click index.html & make some basic edits (add title, lang, attributes).
6. click "Live Preview" from top right lightning-icon.
7. click script.js (left pane), add new clearing function to document.
8. click index.html, add button element after existing button including new function for clearing.
9. Test buttons on live-view, all functional as expected.
10. menu click "File > Save As" navigate to different drive, create new folder, click "save" (index.html)
11. App crashed as before.

Simplified version also crashes:
same steps 1-4.
click index.html
menu click "File > Save As" navigate to different drive/folder, click "save" (index2.html)
click "Live Preview" from top right lightning-icon.
App crashed as before.

Files are confirmed as they were written in the new path, so it saved properly, just app unable to handle continued GUI.

Unfortunately I give up. I like the idea of the visual-tool behind this software, but I can't work like this with the constant crashes. Going to VSCode for now. hopefully y'all can figure out the bugs and I'll try again your next version... alternatively I may try working this on Wine/Bottles

😅 Sorry for the issues. We may move to appimage as we are seeing a lot of native linux related issues. Thanks for the detailed reproduction steps.
