First of all, thank you for the great addon! Very useful.
I eventually found a workaround, but I thought it must be something that other people would encounter, and I was very surprised to find no mentioning of this issue.
The Note ID needs to serve as the identifier of notes. Therefore, Anki does not allow you to import a text file that specifies no mapping into a Note ID. In other words, while this addon is great for allowing the external editing of decks, it makes it tricky to expand such decks with imports.
Again, myself I found a work around but I think others would appreciate if this could be resolved. Maybe a wrapper to the import functionality? I don't know.
