Planning a route

I have the feeling either a very normal function is missing, or I did not find it.
I need to know the distance in km, by any means of transportation, between two DISTANT points (i.e. I am located in a third place) (for example, for expenses reimbursement). I can do the routing, it is displayed on the map, but I cannot see the distance. If hit "start", osmand will complain I have strayed from the routing (of course, I am in switzerland and I look for a route between florida and louisiana, for example.)
How do I do to just know the km distance?
The "plan a route" does not work for this, at all, neither on the map web site.
I must say, i had to use the google maps web for that. Shame.

Oops, just found the "simulate route" under root settings (gear icon". That displays the km.
Answering myself here as it can be useful for others.
